"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
– Wayne Dyer
Making friends with the night – no matter what it looks like – is usually the last thing we want to do when we’re in the grip of insomnia. And yet, paradoxically, it’s the very thing that helps us break the vicious cycle.
The Library helps you understand how to bring this into daily life.
"But how do I do that if insomnia feels so horrible?" – you may ask
I truly get that. If “stop trying to sleep” and “befriend wakefulness” were easy, insomnia wouldn’t last more than a week.
The truth is, not trying is the hardest part because your whole brain screams at you:
“Do something! Try more! Try harder!”
And so we end up trying not to try…
Inside the Library, we go deep into the nuances of applying these principles in real situations with real emotions. We learn what it means to let go of control in a way that’s realistic and not forced – through a shift in understanding and a great deal of self-kindness and self-acceptance.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
– Carl Rogers

What insomnia recovery feels like
It’s not finding a fail-proof strategy and hoping it will “work” forever. It’s also not about working hard to maintain a perfect streak. And it’s definitely not about controlling sleep.
It’s about letting the body do what it already knows how to do. When we stop trying so hard to make it happen, sleep becomes much more organic and effortless. We slowly learn how to get out of our own way.
Over time, it tends to look like:
✅ Going to bed without a plan or safety measures
✅ Not obsessively checking the clock or tracking sleep
✅ No longer panicking when the night isn’t perfect
✅ Having a full day and realizing we barely thought about sleep
✅ Finding meaning in life again, laughing, making plans
✅ Trusting the body and fully delegating the job of sleep to it
